Biography

Dr. Hashim Uledi Iddi is a Senior Lecturer, researcher, and academic in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at the College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania. He has over two decades of professional, teaching, and research experience, with expertise in antenna design, wireless communication systems, information and communication technologies (ICTs), rain attenuation modeling, and radio wave propagation studies.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Iddi has made significant contributions to designing and improving antenna performance for WLAN, IoT, and other wireless communication applications. His research in rain attenuation modeling is particularly impactful in tropical regions, where reliable high-frequency communication links such as satellite and microwave systems are essential. He has published over 40 papers in high-impact journals, presented at international conferences, and engaged in collaborative research with academic and research institutions. As a team member, Dr. Iddi has been actively involved in more than six consultancy-based research projects.

 

Dr. Iddi is an active contributor to the academic community as a peer reviewer for several reputable journals and international conferences. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Registered Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB), Tanzania. Dr. Iddi held various administrative posts, including Examination Officer, Postgraduate Coordinator (Jan 2015 – Mar 2019), and Research Coordinator (Feb 2023 – Apr 2025) in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, CoICT. He currently serves as Postgraduate Coordinator for CoICT, where he provides strategic leadership in academic program development, curriculum design, and postgraduate research supervision. In the ongoing Curriculum Review activities at CoICT, Dr. Iddi is curriculum review coordinator in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (Jan 2023 – present).

 

Dr. Iddi began his professional career at UDSM in February 2002 as a Research Assistant. In 2006, he was promoted to Assistant Lecturer after completing his MSc in Telecommunication Engineering at UDSM. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2014, specializing in Antenna design for MIMO applications under the supervision of Prof. Mohammed Ramlee Kamarudin and Prof. Tharek Abd Rahman t the Wireless Communication Centre, UTM. In September 2014, he was promoted to Lecturer.

 

From 2019 to 2020, he pursued postdoctoral research at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa, focusing on low-noise amplifier design for wireless applications. In September 2022, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer.

As part of his teaching role, Dr. Iddi lectures both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Analogue Electronics, Digital Electronics, Telecommunication Switching and Advanced Digital Electronics. He has supervised numerous research students, including 11 Master’s students (9 graduated, 2 ongoing) and 6 PhD students (4 graduated, 2 ongoing). 

Dr. Iddi also served as an External Examiner for Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), Tanzania, St. Joseph University in Tanzania, the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Tanzania, and Anna University, Chennai, India.
